5 Ways To Maintain A Healthy Scalp and Hair

Maintain A Healthy Scalp

Who doesn’t want longer and healthier hair? But getting healthy hair isn’t an easy job. It requires a number of steps and sometimes treatments too.

Psychologically speaking, the hair outside your scalp is dead. It has no blood, nerves and muscles. That is why it doesn’t bleed or hurt when we cut it.

But even though the hair is dead, the surface underneath it i.e scalp is alive. Just like other parts of the body it also needs nutrients and proteins.

The key to having long and lustrous strands is a healthy scalp. If your scalp is unhealthy it can lead to hair loss, dandruff and also cause itchiness.

So lets take a look at some tips that will help you in getting shiny and soft hair.

Maintain a Healthy Diet

Healthy hair is a sign of good health. Avoid junk and heavily processed foods and try to have at-least 2 liters of water everyday. Include foods that are rich in Vitamin A and C (walnuts, spinach, blueberries) as they help in circulating oxygen to the scalp.

Brush Your Hair Daily

Always brush your hair as it removes dead skin cells. It also stimulates circulation and distributes excess oil throughout the hair. If possible use a natural bristle brush as plastic brushes do not spread the oil effectively.

Wash Your Hair With A Gentle Shampoo

Washing your hair is the most effective way to clean the scalp but doing it more often will strip your hair of its natural oil. Use a sulfate free shampoo (free of harsh ingredients sodium chloride, polyethylene glycol) so that it does not harm your scalp.

Apply Essential Oils

Oil contains minerals, vitamins and fatty acids that strengthen the roots.  Massage your scalp with essentials oils ( lavender, tree tea) before going to bed and wash it on the next day. This will help in stimulating hair growth and keep the scalp clean and healthy.

Prevent Damage

Protect you hair from sun as your scalp can be damaged when exposed to extreme sunlight. Get plenty of sleep and tone down the stress.
